Adding an Endorsement Area

If you would like to become certified to teach another subject area in addition to your current certificate/license, you can apply for an "endorsement" in the new subject. Special subject endorsements are attached to currently held teaching certificates and allow teachers to teach in additional areas without having to apply for a separate certificate or license. Endorsements can be issued for core academic areas such as English, math, or social studies, as well as non-core subject areas, such as Art, Computer Science, Drama, Drivers Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Gifted, Media Specialist, Music, and Physical Education. Typically, additional subject areas are added to a certificate/license by completing a state-approved program of study and/or passing the appropriate subject area competency examination(s).
